Allowed keywords for searching in Pitara

Here are common keywords you can use for your search, and you’re free to combine them in any order.

For examples of how to use these keywords effectively, check out our sample searches.

Note: You can shorten any keyword using a ‘*’ For instance, ‘Jan*’ will search for January, and ‘202*’ will search for 2020, 2021, 2022, and beyond.

Camera models

  • Search by camera models (i.e., Nikon D70, Nikon D7100, Canon Rebel EOS, iPhone XS, iPhone 13).

Location

Name of city, street, state, country

  • Depending on where you took the photo, you can search for Queen Ann, Seattle, Washington, or the USA

Height

  • Search by height. For example, search 4kfeet will search photos taken in about 4000 feet. You can also use words like 4kfeetplus to search photos taken above 4000 feet.
  • A great feature for hikers.

Time

Years

  • Year accepts a variety of options like below
  • From 2002
  • 2002
  • From 2002-2005
  • From ten years
  • From 10 years

Seasons 

  • Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer.
  • Pitara automatically determines the season based on the date the photo was taken.

Months 

  • You can include January or Jan* or February or Feb* and so on to get photos taken that month. 
  • From five months.
  • From 5 months.

Weekday/Weekend 

  • Weekday – Photos taken on weekdays
  • Weekend – Photos taken on weekends

Day of the week

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • You can also use wildcards (i.e., Mon*, Sat*, Tues*)

Dates 

  • You can use dates like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st.

Morning/Noon/Afternoon/Evening/Night 

  • Morning – Photos were taken between 6:00 AM to 11:59 AM
  • Noon – Photos were taken at 12:00 PM
  • Afternoon – Photos are taken from 12:00 PM to 4:59 PM
  • Evening – Photos are taken from 5:00 PM to 7:59 PM
  • Night – Photos are taken from 8:00 PM to 5:59 AM
  • Besides that, you can add hours for example 5PM or 7AM to get photos taken around that hour.

Files/Folders

  • If you have meaningful folder names (i.e., John Wedding Reception), the photos from that folder will be indexed words from the folder name.
  • Similarly, if your files have meaningful names, such as ‘JuliaGreatPortrait.JPG’, those photos will be tagged with the words ‘Julia’, ‘Great’, and ‘Portrait’.

Your own custom TAGs

  • You can search using custom keywords, known as TAGs, which you’ve added to specific sets of photos (e.g., ‘Emma graduation’, ‘Emma birthday’, ‘Sophie graduation’).
