About Pitara

Pitara is a Windows photo search tool that lets you find any photo in under half a second — by location, date, camera, altitude, festival, or person — without uploading anything to the cloud. It has been under continuous development across seven major releases.

What Pitara does

Modern phones and cameras embed rich metadata in every photo: GPS coordinates, timestamps, camera make and model, altitude, and more. Pitara reads this metadata, builds a fast local index, and makes your entire library searchable through plain-language queries.

  • Sub-0.5 second search across terabytes of photos
  • Search by location, date, time, camera, altitude, festivals, people, and custom tags
  • Twelve built-in catalogs — Search, This Day, Places, Times, Cameras, My Tags, Heights, Holidays, Faces, People, Folders, Bookmarks
  • On-device face detection and people search — no GPU required, no cloud upload
  • Works with your existing folders — no reorganization needed
  • Index once, search forever — even when the drive is unplugged

Why the name Pitara?

The name comes from the Hindi word Pitara (पिटारा), meaning a box of surprises. It fits: open your library and rediscover meaningful memories you forgot you had.

Built by ENSWare LLC

Pitara is built and maintained by Naren (ENSWare LLC). The goal has stayed the same across every release: make photo discovery fast, private, and accessible to anyone with a growing Windows photo library — without subscriptions, cloud accounts, or expensive hardware.

Open Community

Festival data (covering 7 countries: US, India, China, Canada, Japan, Spain, UK), query syntax documentation, and the plugin system are open source. Contributions are welcome — add festivals for your country, report query edge cases, or follow plugin development as it evolves.
